Bentley has unveiled the all-new Torcal, its fourth model line and first fully electric Bentley. Designed, engineered and built in Crewe with support from suppliers across the UK, the Torcal represents a significant investment in British manufacturing. Bentley Chairman and CEO Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser describes it as a Bentley first and foremost, combining hand craftsmanship, premium materials, advanced technology, heritage and innovation.
Led by Design Director Robin Page, the Torcal introduces a new Bentley design language through a low, sleek SUV shape. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs, upright stance and “endless bonnet” create a powerful presence. The design follows four key elements: proportion, graphics, surface and detail. Bentley influences include the Continental T, an illuminated diamond grille and a clean rear design inspired by the “prestigious shield” concept. Strong rear haunches create the “resting beast” appearance, while the diamond pattern is repeated throughout the exterior and interior.
Inside, the dashboard remains inspired by Bentley wings, combining leather, wool, veneer and aluminium with knurled controls and redesigned bullseye air vents. Physical controls remain on the centre console and steering wheel. The standard seats offer 16-way adjustment, heating, ventilation, adjustable bolsters and massage, while optional Postural Adjust, Smart Seat Climate and Wellness Seat systems provide additional comfort. The rear three-seat bench features Bentley’s first power-fold system. Five wheel designs are available, with 21-inch wheels standard on the core model and 22-inch wheels on the S. The Torcal is also the first Bentley to feature the brand’s redesigned emblem.
The Torcal is Bentley’s first fully electric model and uses two permanent-magnet synchronous motors. It delivers up to 888 PS and 1,350 Nm of torque, allowing acceleration from 0–60 mph in as little as 2.8 seconds and 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. The 800V electrical system uses a 113 kWh net battery containing 192 lithium-ion pouch cells, covered by a 100,000-mile, 10-year warranty.
Bentley’s most advanced chassis technology to date includes fully active suspension, adaptive two-valve dampers and electronic All Wheel Steering. The system is designed to provide improved ride comfort and body control while maintaining agility. Rear steering angles of up to five degrees help reduce the turning circle to 11.1 metres. Braking is provided by 420 mm front and 370 mm rear iron discs, with an optional Carbon Silicon Carbide system using 440 mm front and 410 mm rear discs.
Measuring five metres in length, the Torcal is Bentley’s shortest four-door model while offering a 460-litre boot and 90-litre front storage area. It offers up to 375 miles (600 km WLTP) of range and can charge from 10–80% in just under 20 minutes at 400 kW, adding around 100 miles (161 km) of range in seven minutes. Its advanced driver-assistance systems use 25 radars, sensors and cameras, supporting features such as towing assistance, garage and parallel parking, remote parking via an app and automatic reversing when obstacles are detected on narrow roads. Four radar-controlled powered doors can also open and close automatically, while a new Frosted Diamond switchable-glass sunroof adds flexibility to the cabin.
The Torcal introduces the Bentley Dynamic Symphony, a handcrafted propulsion sound created using real instruments including drums, viola and bass guitar and inspired by the rhythm of Bentley’s 6¾-litre V8. The sound responds to torque demand, vehicle speed and driving mode, becomes more immersive in Sport mode and can be switched off. Other sounds include a direction-indicator sound recorded from a hammer striking leather and touchscreen sounds inspired by a crystal glass. Audio options range from a 620W, 16-speaker system to a 1,780W, 28-speaker Naim system with Dolby Atmos 7.1, kinaesthetic seat shakers and front headrest speakers.
Four Experience Modes shape the vehicle’s atmosphere as well as its driving characteristics. Bentley Mode combines comfort and craftsmanship, Comfort Mode creates a calmer environment with reduced digital information, Sport provides a more dynamic experience, and Refresh increases fresh-air circulation and brightens the cabin. Curved OLED screens improve contrast and ergonomics, while facial recognition can load driver preferences. A smartphone can also function as the vehicle key, and an augmented-reality head-up display projects navigation and ADAS information into the driver’s field of view.
Sustainability is also central to the Torcal. In collaboration with Fox Brothers, Bentley has developed the world’s first 100% Merino wool automotive fabric, certified by the Responsible Wool Standard. Ombré Walnut by Mulliner combines up to 1,000 layers of responsibly sourced walnut off-cuts and recycled paper, while Sunburst Aluminium by Mulliner reinterprets Bentley’s historic engine-turned aluminium dashboards. Customers can choose from 15 shades of olive tan leather, 15 matching Dinamica shades, five Merino wool colours, six wood veneer options, two technical finishes and six Piano finishes.
The Torcal launches in two versions. The core Torcal produces 821 PS and 1,194 Nm, reaches 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The Torcal S produces 888 PS and 1,350 Nm with Launch Control, reaches 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 162 mph (260 km/h). The core model features satin silver brightware, a single-tone colour split and Open Pore Crown Cut Walnut, while the S adds black exterior brightware and mirror caps, dark rear lamps, a rear diffuser, sports sills and front bumper strakes, red brake calipers, S badges, a dedicated colour split and stitching, sports pedals, Piano Black veneer, illuminated treadplates and dynamic “waterfall” mood lighting.
