Nadim Mehanna and his MotorShow team took the Audi RS e-tron GT for a comprehensive drive in the UAE.

The Audi RS e-tron GT represents a different approach to the high-performance electric car. Rather than focusing purely on acceleration or technology, Audi has developed the RS e-tron GT as a genuine grand tourer, combining exceptional electric performance with long-distance comfort, sophisticated driving dynamics, and the practicality of a four-door layout. It brings the character of Audi Sport into the electric era while maintaining the refinement expected from a premium GT.

Built around an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture, the RS e-tron GT uses a dual-motor setup with electric motors driving both axles. This gives the car quattro all-wheel drive while delivering the immediate response and effortless acceleration associated with high-performance electric vehicles.

From the outside, the RS e-tron GT has a low, wide, and highly aerodynamic profile. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs, sloping roofline, broad shoulders, and sculpted bodywork give it the proportions of a classic grand tourer while retaining a distinctly modern appearance. The large Singleframe grille, aggressive front-end detailing, and wide rear stance establish its RS character.

Aerodynamics play an important role in the design. The low body, carefully shaped underbody, active aerodynamic elements, and rear spoiler work together to improve efficiency and high-speed stability. With a drag coefficient of approximately 0.24, the RS e-tron GT demonstrates how performance and aerodynamic efficiency can work together.

On the road, the RS e-tron GT immediately demonstrates the advantage of electric propulsion. The response from the accelerator is virtually instantaneous, with the dual electric motors delivering their power smoothly and continuously. Audi quotes up to 856 hp and 895 Nm of torque when launch control is activated, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 2.8 seconds.

What makes the experience particularly impressive is how accessible the performance feels. There is no need to build engine revs or wait for a transmission to select the correct gear. A simple press of the accelerator is enough to unleash immediate acceleration, making highway overtaking effortless.

Despite its performance, the RS e-tron GT does not feel aggressive all the time. In normal driving, it can be remarkably quiet and relaxed. The electric powertrain allows the car to move through urban traffic with very little effort, while the suspension and cabin insulation help maintain the refined character expected from a grand tourer.

The low center of gravity is one of the car's key dynamic advantages. With the battery pack positioned low within the chassis, the RS e-tron GT remains remarkably stable during cornering. The quattro all-wheel-drive system also provides strong traction when accelerating and confidence when changing direction.

Steering is precise and direct, with the RS e-tron GT responding quickly to driver inputs. Despite its substantial dimensions, its sophisticated chassis makes it feel more agile than expected. Different driving modes can further sharpen the powertrain, steering, and suspension responses, transforming the car from a relaxed GT into a more focused performance machine.

Battery technology is another defining part of the RS e-tron GT experience. The current model uses a battery with 105 kWh of gross capacity and 97 kWh of usable capacity, supported by an 800-volt electrical system. Under suitable conditions, the car can accept DC charging at up to 320 kW, allowing a significant amount of energy to be added during a relatively short charging stop.

Official WLTP range for the current RS e-tron GT is approximately 528 to 598 km, depending on specification and equipment. Real-world range naturally varies according to driving style, temperature, traffic, wheels, tires, and climate-control use. In the UAE, efficient thermal management and access to suitable fast-charging infrastructure are particularly important.

Inside, the RS e-tron GT combines technology with the traditional qualities of an Audi performance car. The dashboard is clearly designed around the driver, with digital displays providing essential information while the overall layout remains clean and purposeful. The low seating position reinforces the sporting character, while the quality of the materials gives the cabin the refinement expected from a premium grand tourer.

The front seats provide excellent support while remaining comfortable over long distances. The rear seats add an important element of practicality, allowing the RS e-tron GT to function as a genuine four-door vehicle rather than simply a performance car with additional doors.

Material quality is another strong point. Depending on specification, the interior can feature premium leather, sport-oriented upholstery, carbon-fiber details, aluminum finishes, and sustainable material options. The RS-specific touches add visual character without overwhelming the cabin.

Technology is naturally central to the RS e-tron GT. The vehicle incorporates digital instrumentation, a central infotainment system, navigation, smartphone connectivity, connected services, and a range of driver-assistance features. Systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane assistance, blind-spot monitoring, parking assistance, and autonomous emergency braking further improve everyday usability.

The RS e-tron GT also offers different driving modes that allow its character to change according to the situation. In relaxed settings, the car emphasizes comfort and smoothness, making it well suited to commuting and long-distance travel. In sportier modes, its responses become more immediate, revealing the performance potential beneath its elegant design.

One of the more interesting aspects of the electric driving experience is Audi's approach to sound. The RS e-tron GT can provide an artificial sport sound that increases the sense of occasion during acceleration and enthusiastic driving, adding an additional layer of feedback to an otherwise quiet powertrain.

In the UAE, the RS e-tron GT occupies an interesting position within the premium performance market. Its combination of extreme acceleration, four-door practicality, long-distance comfort, and fast-charging capability makes it suitable for a wide variety of driving situations. It can serve as a daily luxury car while still delivering genuine performance-car levels of acceleration.

Ultimately, the Audi RS e-tron GT demonstrates that electrification does not have to mean sacrificing the traditional qualities of a grand tourer. Its dual-motor powertrain provides extraordinary acceleration, while its low center of gravity, sophisticated suspension, quattro all-wheel drive, and precise steering give it the dynamic character expected from Audi Sport.

With up to 856 hp, 895 Nm of torque, an acceleration time of approximately 2.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, an 800-volt electrical architecture, rapid charging capability, and a WLTP range of up to approximately 598 km, the RS e-tron GT combines impressive numbers with genuine everyday usability.

The Audi RS e-tron GT ultimately succeeds by offering more than straight-line speed. It is a performance car, a luxury sedan, and a long-distance grand tourer in one package, bringing together speed, refinement, technology, comfort, and usability in a distinctly Audi Sport interpretation of electric mobility.
